The City of Tucson Parks and Recreation Department, along with Visit Tucson and Pima Community College, is honored to be hosting the Jennie Finch Softball Camp at Lincoln Park Softball Complex, 8116 E. Escalante Road, for all girls third grade and up. Camp will be held November 8-9, 2014. Join Jennie Finch and her Olympic and Professional softball teammates for two full days of personal instruction covering all aspects of softball. Come and learn from the best softball players in the world and discover what it takes to be a Champion on and off the field.
“We are so excited to bring the Jennie Finch Softball Camp to Tucson, Arizona,” said Jennie Finch. “Tucson holds so many incredible memories for me on and off the field along with many treasured friendships. I have been so blessed by this game and much because of the University of Arizona and Coach Candrea. We are thrilled to be able to work with the youth of Tucson and share the many lessons and skills we have learned from the great game of softball. Our staff includes many Wildcats including Toni Mascaras, Leah O’Brien-Amico, and Mackenzie Vandergeest whom also can’t wait to get back to the Old Pueblo, our home!”
“Tucson is delighted to welcome these girls and their families,” said Mayor Rothschild. “Wildcats like Jennie Finch have made the U of A a softball powerhouse, serving as inspiration to countless young athletes. Our parks department is always ready to help with amateur sporting events like this one, which are such a great fit for Tucson.”
Advanced registration is required and participation is limited. The cost is $195 per camper or register 10 or more girls together to receive a 10% team discount. Campers will receive lunch both days, official camp t-shirt, autographed photo of Jennie Finch, certificate of participation and a photo taken with Jennie and her medals. There will be a question and answer time for campers, coaches and parents, Finch Windmill demonstration, pitching demonstration by Jennie, hitting demonstrations by professional coaches and drawings for prizes. Participants can register now at www.JennieFinch.com.
This camp follows a successful ASA 18U Girls’ Fastpitch Class A West National Championship tournament that was held July 30-Aug 3, 2014. Of the 17 teams that participated, 12 teams traveled from outside of Tucson, and 7 of them from out of State. On Championship Sunday, our very own Tucson Scramblers defeated the West Coast Predators twice to claim the title as the ASA/USA 18U A West National Champion!
“I am proud of the staff and their dedication to making Tucson Parks and Recreation and Lincoln Park a destination for softball tournaments in the future,” said Fred Gray, Director of Tucson Parks and Recreation. “We look forward to hosting hundreds of young athletes in November at the Jennie Finch Softball Camp.”
