Ward 3 Council Member Karin Uhlich, City of Tucson, Tucson Unified School District, and the Fort Lowell Soccer Club want you to join us as we celebrate the opening of the soccer fields and walking path at Doolen Middle School. This project is a joint-use facility between TUSD, City of Tucson Parks and Recreation and the Fort Lowell Soccer Club consisting of two new soccer fields and a lighted walking path. These park improvements will be a great benefit to the neighborhood as well as the school and soccer communities.
“In an area that has very little green space, neighbors deeply appreciate having access to a safe, fenced, landscaped walking path that will be maintained by Parks and Recreation and lighted dusk to dawn,” said Council Member Uhlich.
Other improvements included landscaping, ADA access, a drinking fountain, shot put/discus throw and long jump. Funding for this project came from TUSD 2004 General Obligation Bonds of $1,114,125.68 to date. Through separate agreements, the Fort Lowell Soccer Club, with support from the soccer community, will provide $280,000 to fund the lighting for the fields at a future date. Following the ribbon cutting there will be a walk/run around the new path and field day activities for the kids to participate in. Food will be available for purchase.
