Tucson Parks and Recreation has completed the rebuilding of the long time closed playground at Vista del Prado Park, 6900 E. Stella Road. In February 2012 the slide at the playground was discovered by staff to have been a victim of arson and in turn barricaded. The following weekend in March, the rest of the playground was set on fire, suffering such extensive damage that the Department was forced to close the entire playground. It has remained closed until the replacement of the equipment was completed on Tuesday, August 13. The playground, with the addition of a shade structure, is now complete and open to the public.
Vandalism to parks property is a consistent and troubling problem, costing money and wasting resources. Crews are cleaning up graffiti every day at City parks and copper thefts along the baseball fields cancel Little League games. If you see any kind of vandalism at a City park, call 911 or 88-Crime.
