Representatives of the City of Tucson and the Friends of Marty Birdman Center will come together for a dedication ceremony on Friday, July 6 at 11 a.m. The new Splash Pad is located in Balboa Heights Park at Marty Birdman Center, 2536 N. Castro Ave.
The $170,000 project represents a partnership between the City and the Friends of Marty Birdman Center who received Community Development Block Grant funding from Ward 3 Council Member Karin Uhlich for design and construction of erosion controls and a small splash pad.
This project consisted of, erosion control measures including a new retaining wall north of the existing basketball court; a subsurface drainage system and new ADA access walk to the court. The splash pad includes a 3,770 gallon holding tank, 1,041 square foot splash pad with 27 brass jet nozzles, masonry seat walls, 100 square foot equipment enclosure, fencing and a new drinking fountain.
Participating in the ceremony will be Mayor Jonathan Rothschild, Ward 3 Council Member Karin Uhlich, Doris Habich, President of The Friends of Marty Birdman Center and Fred H. Gray, Jr., Director of Tucson Parks and Recreation.
