The Tucson Parks and Recreation Department will temporarily close Menlo Pool, 1100 W. Fresno, for one week beginning Monday, June 25, 2012. The pool, one of six seasonal pools opened this summer through donations, has experienced unanticipated plaster deterioration and the closure will allow work crews to replace the plaster to provide a better swim experience for the balance of the summer.
Scheduled swim lessons will not be canceled, but the second session beginning Tuesday, June 19 will be restructured to be completed before repairs begin. During this one week closure, Menlo Pool patrons will have access to all other pools that are open. The pool will reopen Tuesday, July 3, and the summer season at Menlo Park will be extended by one week until August 5.
As a result of the generous donations of the general public, and local businesses and non-profit groups, the six summer seasonal pools are on schedule to increase lessons by 800 participants, allowing total swim lessons to approach 4,800 this summer.
