DESERT DIAMOND CASINOS & THE CITY OF TUCSON PARTNER FOR “A” MOUNTAIN ANNUAL FIREWORKS CELEBRATION

Desert Diamond Casinos, an enterprise of the Tohono O’Odham Nation, is sponsoring this year’s annual Fireworks Celebration from “A” Mountain. This marks the third consecutive year that Desert Diamond Casinos has stepped up to sponsor the City of Tucson “A” Mountain Fireworks  celebration. This year’s show is scheduled to begin at approximately 9:15 p.m., Wednesday, July 4, 2012.

“The City of Tucson sincerely appreciates the support from Desert Diamond Casinos to help continue this proud tradition in our community,” said City Manager Richard Miranda. “Independence Day is a national holiday and the City is again honored to offer a location where the community can safely celebrate this important day with a patriotic display of fireworks.”

Those attending the celebration downtown may enjoy the “A” Mountain fireworks show from the Tucson Convention Center’s (TCC) Parking Lot
B, which is off Granada Avenue between Congress Street and Cushing Street. Parking is free. TCC’s Food and Beverage Department will be
selling food and beverages between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Other suggested viewing locations in the downtown area with free parking are:

  • The 22nd Street Lot at the Interstate 10 frontage road (northeast corner)
  • The Mercado West End Dirt Lot, south of Congress Street and west of the Santa Cruz River. (Vendors will be selling food)
  • The City/State Parking Garage at 498 W. Congress, at the northeast quadrant of I-10 and Congress Street

Because of construction of the Sun Link Tucson Streetcar in Downtown Tucson, motorists are encouraged to use 22nd Street and the I-10 frontage roads to reach the viewing locations. To minimize the impacts on the area residents, Mission Road will be closed from Starr Pass Boulevard to Congress Street beginning at 5 p.m. on the day of the show.  Mission Road will reopen once traffic clears from the viewing locations. Motorists are asked to avoid using residential streets west of I-10 as parking areas and as ingress and egress to the free parking locations.
